Description

Yin Yang Blues has the simple structure of a 12 bar blues.  The ‘Yin’ is a 12 bar melody played over major dominant chords.  The ‘Yang’ is the same melody played over minor 7th chords.  The ‘Yin’ and ‘Yang’ harmonies continue to alternate throughout the whole piece.

The smooth melody line comes from Alto 1 and 2, with the other supporting parts providing the texture underneath.  There are two different written out solos for players who feel less comfortable with improvising.

There is an additional tenor part that is the same as the baritone sax part. This is intended for those groups who aren’t lucky enough to have a baritone player.

There is also a separate downloadable Soprano Sax (same as Alto 1) part included with the purchase.

Instrumentation  S/AAAAT(T)B + rhythm section (a rhythm section audio download is also available).

Individual parts range from grade 3 – 5/6  but of course the improv section allows players of any level to be showcased.

  1. Richard Ingham

Otra Danza?, On It! and Yin Yang Blues are all superb. They feature attractive catchy melodies, very classy rhythm section (or just piano) writing, top grooves along with improvisation options and ideas. Rob demonstrates extensive professional musical and educational experience here. A winning series!
