Christmas is coming!

Have you got organised for the festive concerts yet? Kickstarts Christmas is now live on our website…

Tired of the SAME old christmas tunes? Liven up the festivities with these Groovy Rascal festive beauties. Every mood is catered for: a couple of ballads, a rousing ‘carol’, something that sounds a bit like Jingle bells, and let’s not forget the jazzy Scottish christmas sing-a-long that the folks can belt out (words provided) while you’re cooler than a snowman in Antartica. Every one of these six original pieces comes with piano accompaniment, a demo guide track as well as a solo backing track for you to play along with.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

BetterSax Level up weekend – Manchester May 24

What a knock out weekend in Manchester with Jay Metcalf & Jody Espina at the BetterSax Level up weekend. The place was awash with talented and enthusiastic sax players from all over the world. We were honoured to be asked to provide some of the music for the ensembles. Sapatos de Danza was a real hit for the advanced players and the intermediate players took on Otra Danza and knocked it out of the park. Thanks to Saxophone Orchestra Manchester & AB Workshops for puting on this fabulous event.

RNCM Saxophone Day Nov 23

November saw an invite to the RNCM saxophone day…only the BIGGEST sax day in the UK! Seriously, have you seen how many sax players were there?! It was a great chance to speak to saxophonists from all over and spread the groovy word. We made a lot of connections and are delighted to say that groovy-rascal music will now be stocked by the sheet music giant June Emerson Wind Music

The whole day was a feast for the ears with some top notch performances and a wealth of trade stands.

International Saxophone Festival, Larisa, Greece April 23

What an honour to be asked to proved some music for this event – shame we couldn’t make it there in person! We were delighted to be sent a recording of the final performance of ‘Otra Danza‘ & On It! The level was high and there was a real energy about the playing…maybe it was all that sunshine.

Huddersfield Saxophone Day March 23

What a treat to attend the University of Huddersfield Saxophone Day. Sarah Markham (professor of Saxophone at the University) invited groovy-rascal to lead some ensemble sessions showcasing some music ‘Brother, Sister, We Got Soul’ went down a storm. This is our new release saxophone ensemble with a gospel groove. We really enjoyed Richard Ingham’s ‘An African Song in Johnsaven

CASSGB Single Reed Day, Royal College of Music, London, October 22

What a privilege to be invited to the Royal College of Music to present some groovy-rascal tunes and to lead a workshop titled ‘ Minimum Effort, Maximum Impact’ (something that we’re ALL striving for). The recitals were incredible and the delegates through themselves into the ensembles with great gusto. In this impressive venue the air was full of the sound of saxophones and clarinets. It was a bonus to finally meet the composer James Rae who was very generous in his praise for the groovy-rascal vibe. (Good of them to use the groovy-rascal colours on their program too …very on point!)
